Louisiana – Missouri’s Picturesque Rivertown - is nestled in the northeast section of the State, where Missouri Route 79 Scenic Byway intersects U.S. Highway 54, on the western bluff of the Mississippi River. Louisiana was called the “Land of Golden Hills” by early French explorers. Rolling landscape and river charm provided them a quiet, peaceful atmosphere for raising families and establishing a community.

Louisiana's streets are lined with numerous beautiful antebellum homes revealing their architectural charm of years past, many which are listed on the National Historical Register of Historic Places. The State Department of Natural Resources has noted that Louisiana Missouri has "the most intact Victorian Streetscape in the state of Missouri". Downtown Louisiana commonly known as the Georgia Street Historical District is listed as well on the National Historical Register of Historic Places.

Louisiana is one of three communities forming the 50 Miles of Art corridor, linked by history, heritage & Route 79; Louisiana, Clarksville and Hannibal are home to many fine artists, crafts-persons and artisans where they use their skills to create one-of-a-kind masterpieces. Traveling Route 79 from Clarksville through Louisiana to Hannibal one may enjoy the breathtaking views of the Mississippi River, soaring rock cliffs, rolling hills and colorful landscape. Every season of the year offers an artistʼs palette of color. The surrounding countryside boasts beautiful Fall foliage, in Summer green trees, blue skies, and white clouds, create truly picturesque days.

The Riverfront Park is a lovely place to enjoy the Mississippi River, nature at its most glorious. Relax and watch the river traffic flow past and the public boat launch is nearby. There are six City Parks featuring shady rest spots, river overlooks, picnic areas, playgrounds and ball fields. The Riverview Cemetery, in addition to heritage, offers breathtaking vistas from the top of the hill.
